About this book

On a quiet, prosperous London side street, amid tidy shop fronts, stands a neglected building with a door that has no bell or knocker, scorched by tramps' matches and scratched by children at play. During a Sunday walk, Mr. Enfield tells his companion a story about that door: a small, sinister man who trampled a child in the lamplit calm and walked over her without breaking stride. The man's name is Hyde.
